“What If I am Making It Up During a Past Life Regression?”

I so often hear this from clients who are about to do their first past life regression hypnosis session. This is similar to what I hear when using EMDR or brainspotting with clients as a therapist. My answer is always the same: 

So what if you are?

Whether this is your imagination, a lucid dream, or a literal past life is not important. Because this is not a documentary and there are no wrong answers. What is important is the meaning you make of what comes, and trust me, the “made up” stuff is often just as fruitful therapeutically as the verifiably true past life you may discover.

Imagination Matters

So why can imagination feel so healing? Because we project our feelings onto whatever it is we are experiencing. When you talk about a dream for instance, you inevitably speak about feelings you are currently processing or struggling to process in waking life. Ironically, the symbolism of a past life often says more about the current life than the past itself. 

Past life regression hypnosis helps you:

• Understand yourself at a deeper level

• Recognize the patterns and lessons emerging for you

• Witness your own soul’s growth and evolution (and stop comparing yourself to others’ life journeys). 

Example of one of my own Past Life Journeys

I arrive in a past life in 18th century France, wearing ballet slippers and preparing backstage for a rehearsal performance. I recall feeling exhausted, my body worn out as a young woman. We always ask ourselves and our clients, what question, theme, or issue are you wanting to explore in this session? I used this past life to explore my chronic knee pain that has kept me from playing racket sports even recreationally, as I gave up competitive play since my knee surgery at 28 years old. In that past life, I danced as a means of survival. I lived in poverty. I felt trapped into a life of performance. In this present life, I also played tennis like my life depended on it. The lesson?  To stop wearing my body out. To have compassion for my knees. The knee pain is a reminder to take it easy, not something to change or fix. 

Why The Experience Can Still Change You

 A shift in perspective is a miracle and that is what a past life session can do for you. In the end, the question isn’t, “Am I making it up?” but rather, “Did this help me understand myself differently? Did it give me something healing to work with?”
